User Research
Know who you are designing for.
Great design can not be created in isolation. A design is only great for some specific audience, when they are trying to accomplish some specific goal. That audience may be very large or very small. The goal may be very broad or very narrow. But the only way to design a great solution is to design it for that specific audience and that specific goal.
User Research is the best method of pinpointing everything you need to know about who you are designing for and what their goals are.
Spring Studio employs user research throughout our project cycle. Most projects include some form of Generative User Research early in the project to clarify or add dimension to our understanding of the users' goals, behaviors and mental spaces in relation to the product we are designing. As the project progresses we employ various forms of Evaluative User Research to validate and refine our proposed solutions.
